Following the success of the Geethavani Awards 2006, Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys’ Association of Australia, NSW branch (JHC OBA Sydney)  is hosting the second Tamil singing competition in Australia for the Geethavani Awards in 2007, similar to the well known TV show ‘Australian Idol’, and are being sponsored by Tharisanam TV (www.tharisanam.tv).  “Tharisanam TV commits to provide high quality television service to portray and reflect the aspirations and cultural identity of the Tamil people of this world, in Australia”, says Benkamin Xavier, Asst Operations Manager, Tharisanam TV.  

Along with Tharisanam TV, the event is to be co-sponsored by Blue Elephant Restaurant Sydney (www.blueelephant.com.au), recently named as the Best Sri Lankan Restaurant in Sydney by 'The Sydney Good Food Guide'.

 “The aim of the competition is to encourage the growing number of talented Tamil singers within Australia. The winner will be chosen by an audience vote and will receive a Geethavani Award along with the recognition to pursue a music career”, says Pratheepan Thanabalasingam, President JHC OBA Sydney.
Jaffna Hindu College is a leading educational institution in Sri Lanka which plays a pivotal role in the achievements of Tamils by nurturing & providing eminent professionals and successful leaders for Tamil diaspora.
Full details of the Geethavani Competition 2007 and entry conditions are as follows:
The JHC OBA Sydney Singing Competition will be conducted by the internationally recognised musician ‘Maestro’ ‘Wadya’ ‘Visharadh’ Sarangan Sri Ranganathan, accompanied by Indian artists.
Competition Categories:
Category 1: Ages 12 - 17
Category 2: Ages 18 - 34
Category 3: Ages 35 and above
To Enter the Competition:
Send in a tape or a CD with 2 Tamil songs of your vocal recording (with or without backing music) along with your contact details (postal address and phone number) and Category number (see above) to the following address:

P.O BOX 7740, Baulkham Hills Business Centre, Baulkham Hills, NSW 2153, Australia.
Alternatively, you can give your tape or CD to one of the JHC OBA Executive Committee members listed in www.jhcobasydney.org.au
* Note that all personal information received by the JHC OBA Sydney will be kept confidential.
* If you wish to receive an acknowledgement of the receipt of your tape or CD, please include your email address and an email acknowledgement will be sent to you.
Closing date for submission: Friday, 6th April 2007
Procedure:
A renowned Music Director will listen to the audio entries without being notified of any contact details. Candidates who have been short listed will be notified via written media and will be required to attend auditions on the 15th April 2007.

Sunday 10th June 2007
Ryde Civic Centre
6.30 p.m - 10.30 p.m
After the singing competition, the audience will vote to decide the winners of the Geethavani 2007 Awards.
Tickets to the event:
$ 60.00 Family Ticket (2 adults & 2 children) $ 25.00 Single Ticket (Adult) $10.00 Child Ticket (Children: Under 15) These tickets include the cost of Refreshments.
