War Crime Investigators may review Refugee claim affidavits and RRT appeals to find evidence PDF Print E-mail

John Dowd, president of the Australian chapter of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), has named the current Sri Lankan high commissioner to Australia, Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, in a submission containing allegations of war crimes. Australian Federal Police commissioner Tony Negus is treating the brief "as a matter of urgency" and his war crime investigators are evaluating it.

Each year, thousands of refugees from Sri Lanka seek asylum in Australia and their refugee claim affidavits, application and testimonies to Department of Immigration & Citizenship and appeals to Independent Refugee Review Tribunal contain evidence of Human Rights violations and war crimes.

Human Rughts campaigners said that Australian Federal Police War Crime Investigators may review these evidences to build a case against the alleaged perportraters of war crimes, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha, Former DFAT Official Dr Palitha Kohana and Retired Sri Lankan Navy Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe.
