Full Text Surrendering Tamil Tigers 'executed by soldiers' The United Nations has asked the Sri Lankan Government to respond to allegations that several senior Tamil Tiger rebels were executed as they tried to surrender earlier this year.Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse has received a letter from the United Nations seeking an explanation for the deaths of several high ranking Tamil Tigers. The rebels were killed in the final stages of Sri Lanka's civil war in May. Earlier this month former army chief and now presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka repeated allegations the Tamil Tiger commanders were executed as they tried to surrender. But the government says the victims were shot by other rebels.
