An Eulogy to Late Mr. Thedchanamoorthy Nithyakeerthi PDF Print E-mail
The Australasian Federation of Tamil Associations (AFTA), the umbrella body of the peak State and Territory Tamil organisations in Australia and peak Tamil organisations in New Zealand, submits with deepest sorrow and shock, this eulogy on late Thedchanamoorthy Nithyakeerthi, an active AFTA Council Delegate who passed away so suddenly on 15.10.2009 in Melbourne, Australia.

AFTA is well aware of and appreciative of Nithy’s - as he was fondly called by us – services to the Tamil community of New Zealand, as the President of the Wellington Tamil Society for 4 years.  AFTA recognised and always appreciated his talent in writing and publishing Tamil books, his ability to write poems in Tamil and act, produce and stage Tamil dramas.  He has staged several Tamil dramas first in New Zealand and after migrating to Australia, in Melbourne.  He was very popular amongst both the New Zealand and Australian Tamils for his thought provoking writing and drama productions.

After moving to Australia, Nithy continued his services to the Australian Tamil community, first by serving as the President of the Eelam Tamil Association of Victoria and later serving as one of the Victorian Delegate in the Executive Council of AFTA.  The last AFTA activity Nithy participated was only a week ago at the AFTA Special General Meeting held in Sydney on 10 October ’09 where he actively contributed to the deliberations of the day.  Last night we all watched his smiling face in the SBS “Dateline” program participating in that meeting.

AFTA will sadly miss Nithy’s valuable contributions at times of crisis in the future.  AFTA conveys its deepest condolences to his beloved wife Malathy and his only son Arun.  AFTA appeals to the Tamil community in Melbourne to take time off from other activities and pay their respect to this great gentleman at the public service to be held on Tuesday evening to remember his life and services to the Tamil community.

May his soul rest in peace!

AFTA Executive Council
