Sri Lanka Police found bloodstains and a knife near Raman Kumar Roy's body which was hanging from the staircase. Initial investigations indicated that Roy was stabbed and then hanged, police said. Motive for the killing is unknown but commentators say that after the defeat of LTTE, Sri Lanka has become the major battle field for Indian Intelligence Agencies with China and  Pakistan agents.

A neighbour saw Roy hanging through a window and called the police who broke open the door yesterday and entered the house in Negambo in Colombo suburbs, they said.

The victim reportedly was staying in the house alone as his family was living in Canada, the police said, adding it was being ascertained whether Roy was an Indian passport
holder. Roy had reported for work on September 23 and applied for leave. Since then nothing had been heard of him until his body was discovered yesterday.

According to police spokesman senior DIG Nimal Mediwake, he is suspected to have been killed a few days ago.He said the body had started getting decomposed suggesting the suspected murder could have taken place after September 23.

Mediwake said a clear picture on the cause of his death will emerge only after post-mortem which is being conducted at the Negambo Hospital.
