"..But as we party by the shores of our dazzling harbour, I hope we will also remember all those who do not share our good fortune. Those who will spend their New Year in conflict zones or in hospitals. I ask you to be generous this year in support of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) who are great ambassadors for humanity, ambassadors from the world of the lucky - like us Australians - to those who have not been so fortunate..." This New Year’s Eve promises A Diamond Night in Emerald City, a dual celebration marking the start of 2007 and the Diamond Jubilee of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, opened 75 years ago.The bridge will be the focus of our celebrations when more than one million people around the harbour join the City's party. Wherever you are, I hope you will enjoy it with your friends and loved ones, and that you will party safely and with respect for our environment. New Year's Eve is a time to reflect on the year that was and to be inspired with hope for the year ahead. But as we party by the shores of our dazzling harbour, I hope we will also remember all those who do not share our good fortune. Those who will spend their New Year in conflict zones or in hospitals. I ask you to be generous this year in support of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) who are great ambassadors for humanity, ambassadors from the world of the lucky - like us Australians - to those who have not been so fortunate. Please remember them, but also enjoy the City's celebrations. I wish you all a very happy 2007.
