All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC), which has its headquarters in Colombo, has condemned the aerial attack carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Thursday on the historic Sithirivelautha Swami (Murugan) Temple located in Verugal in Eachchilampathu division, south of Trincomalee district.Two Kfir jets dropped about nine bombs on the ferry linking the two districts by Verugal River, sources said.

Verugal temple is located along the left bank of Verugal River, which is dividing the districts of Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Vaharai is located along the right bank of the Verugal River. Including temple buildings some shops in the area were also damaged in the aerial attack, sources said.

ACHC has stated in a statement that the temple buildings have been completely damaged in the aerial strike on Thursday.

ACHC has requested the Sri Lanka President Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse to take immediate action on those responsible for the destruction of the temple, and to provide government funding assistance to reconstruct the temple, sources said.
