Tamil Tigers officials in Kilinochchi announced a 3-day mourning period, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for the death of LTTE's theoretician and political advisor Anton Balasingham. Meanwhile, representatives of the Australian Tamil Organisations, expressing condolences following the demise of Mr. Anton Balasingham, have also announced a 3-day mourning, according to sources close to ATO said.
The funeral arrangements are yet to be informed. "It is with profound sadness that we record the death of Anton Stanislaus Balasingham, the political advisor and chief negotiator of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), who passed away in London this afternoon," said Tamil Information Centre (TIC) in London in a condolence message, TamilNet reported. "Balasingham devoted the major part of his life to the Tamil liberation struggle." "His knowledge, experience and the confidence he enjoyed with the leader of the LTTE contributed to the course of the peace talks. His demise is a huge loss to the LTTE." "The death of Balasingham is a loss of another leader in the Tamil national struggle and who contributed to the peace process." |
