ATBC Radio Station
Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC) is a radio station broadcasting programs primarily in Tamil language 24 hours a day. Tamil people have migrated to Australia from Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa and Fiji. There are approximately 35,000 first and second generation Tamils living in the Sydney Metropolitan area and there are more than 80,000 Tamils live in Australia.

Community broadcasting in Australia is the voice of the community. Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC) was established to provide Australian Tamils with Information services, which are not adequately served by the existing mainstream media. ATBC was established as a non-profit entity with active participation from the Tamil community. ATBC enables the facilities and mechanism required for talented and energetic volunteers from the Tamil community to produce programs.

ATBC adheres to the Code of Practice set by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. Code of Conduct has been defined for broadcasters to ensure that public is not misled on events or news items, which are particularly sensitive to the community as defined by the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA).

Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) is set-up with Community Leaders to ensure that the Management Committee of ATBC adheres to the Code of Practice and Code of Conduct. EAC will also review the accounts of ATBC to ensure that it operates on a non-profit basis.

Types of Programming

ATBC has established a partnership with other international radio stations to re-broadcast their programs. Some of the key content providers for our programs are BBC Tamil Service, BBC World Service, CTR in Canada and Tamil Web Radio in Germany.

ATBC has also obtained permission to relay weekly Tamil broadcsasts from the government radio station SBS and community radio station "Tamizh Muzhakkam".

ATBC provide variety of programs to cater the needs of the Community. ATBC ensures the time is allocated in the key areas to provide information for youth, senior citizens and women and to new arrivals in Australia. While majority of the programs and music are of Tamil origin, ATBC also produce and re-broadcast programs in English.
