Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama to seek release of War Criminal Col Karuna |

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama would be leaving for the UK to hold discussions and meetings on issues of bilateral importance with his counterpart and other political dignitaries, a press release issued by the ministry said yesterday. It is also expected that Rohitha will request for the release of Sri Lankan Paramilitary Operative, War Criminal Col Karuna alias Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan recently arrested & sentenced by UK police and immigration authorities, sources said. Col Karuna was arrested following a joint operation between Britain's new Border and Immigration Agency and London police, a UK Home Office statement previously said.
Minister Bogollagama is scheduled to meet the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Mr. David Miliband, Secretary of State of Wales, Mr. Paul Murphy, Shadow Foreign Secretary, Mr. William Haugue and All Party Parliamentary Group on Sri Lanka which is chaired by Lord Naseby, among others, during his brief visit to the UK.
Minister Bogollagama would also have a meeting with the newly elected Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Mr. Kamalesh Sharma, who would be assuming his new office of the Secretary General on 1st April, 2008. The Minister would meet with the Commonwealth Heads of Mission at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London in order to connect with Sri Lanka’s action plan with different Agencies of the Commonwealth. |
