South Australian premier Mike Rann to act in Tamil Cinema PDF Print E-mail
South Australian premier Mike Rann, it appears, is hoping to act in a Tamil movie and said as much when he met the CEO of AVM Film Studios in Chennai, where he is currently trying to promote business and education interests between the two countries."I met the chief executive officer of AVM Film Studios Balasubramaniam yesterday and asked him to produce an action film in South Australia. Of course, I would like to act in it," Rann said. Balasubramaniam also confirmed that Rann had met him and asked him to produce an action movie in South Australia, as post-production work, including computer graphics, was cheap in that country.

"The premier in a lighter vein expressed his willingness to act in the movie. He said the climate in both countries was so similar that making the movie there would not be an issue. I will take this opportunity to shoot my forthcoming movie with actor Vijay in South Australia," Balasubramaniam added.

Rann, who has already acted in four Australian movies said he was planning to join former Miss World Priyanka Chopra in Mumbai on Tuesday night to launch the trailer for the film Love Story 2050, the first Bollywood movie to be filmed in South Australia. A smiling premier revealed that he had performed a small role in the movie.

"I danced in the movie, but unfortunately did not get a chance to dance with Priyanka Chopra. But my wife Sasha Carruozzo who is an actor, had a chance to act with Priyanka," he said.

Rann worked as a political journalist for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, before moving to South Australia in 1977 to become a press secretary, speech writer and adviser to three South Australian Labour Premiers, including the late Don Dunstan.

Mike Rann, who was on a three-day visit to Chennai, led a delegation of business men and representatives of educational institutions to woo the best of Tamil Nadu's talent.

The premier said that Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd would lead a delegation next year and both the countries would sign various deals during the meeting.

Rann, who was born in Sidcup, Kent, in 1953, said, "For the past two years we have been coming to Chennai for playing a cricket match with the chief minister XI. We would like to invite the chief minister's XI next year to play with us at Adelaide Oval, in which we will have Darren Lehman to win the visitors."
