It has been a very productive and successful year for JHC OBA Sydney and I would like to present to you a brief summary of our achievements in 2007. Geethavani Awards 2007 (June 2007) The Executive Committee members of JHC OBA Sydney have worked tirelessly throughout the year to organise and host the 2nd consecutive Geethavani Awards 2007, which was held on 10th June 2007 at Ryde Civic Centre. It was an exceptionally successful event and we raised $5206.85 which is the highest ever collected in JHC OBA Sydney’s history. The credit should go to all the executive committee members who have worked hard to achieve our target ticket sales and also our OBA members who supported us in many ways. Tennis & Cricket Competition (September & October 2007) To encourage healthy lifestyle and networking between our families and children, The Committee organised the annual cricket and tennis competitions against Hartley College. Tennis competition was held in September 2007 at the Parramatta Tennis centre. It was a very close competition and we won the final championship trophy and Hartley won the over all trophy. In our annual cricket match against Hartley College was held in October 2007 at Strathfield Cricket ground, JHC OBA Sydney cricket team showcased and excellent performance and won the trophy. The credit goes to our sports secretary and the respective captains of the teams for their dedication and effort. Aid to Jaffna Hindu College (August 2007) Our Executive Committee contacted the principal, Mr. Ganesharajah, expressing our keenness to sponsor any projects that would benefit the school. In response to our letter, which is enclosed for your information, Mr. Ganesharajah replied with the list of projects for our consideration. His request is also enclosed for your information. Subsequently, the committee has decided to fund, buying a multimedia projector and four over-head projectors (300,000 of LKR-estimation) and requested the principal to obtain two quotes from different suppliers. We are waiting for his reply and expect to execute our commitment in early 2008. Future plans • To continue the maintenance of our website (http://www.jhcobasydney.org.au/) to include details of all our events, news on the progress of the committee as they organise the various events, event photographs and up-to-date database of member information, we are planning to appoint a web master within the executive committee who will be responsible for continuos update and enhancements of our website. • Development of simplified accounting system for account tracking. I wish to thank each member of the Executive Committee for their dedication and endless efforts in organising each of the events we have had in 2007. It takes excellent teamwork to carry out the committee’s innovative ideas and we worked very hard each week of the year to host the JHC OBA Sydney events. Many members who were not on the committee helped us tremendously and for this we are very grateful. Our objective is to contribute the funds generated from fundraising events towards infrastructure development, educational equipment procurement and other needs as and when requested by the principal. We are also committed to organise social/sports events providing a platform for our members and families to network and share the invaluable education, life skills and the social values that we learnt and experienced at Jaffna Hindu College that has greatly contributed to our successful career and to lead a meaningful life on a foreign soil. On behalf of The Executive Committee of 2007, we thank you for your continued support of JHC OBA Sydney. Pratheepan Thanabalasingam President of JHC OBA Sydney 2007 Source: JHC OBA Sydney Website |
