Sri Lanka has been ranked the 6th among SAARC countries violating human rights according to a SAARC Human Rights Report released last week.Asian Centre for Human Rights Director Suhas Chakma speaking at the launch of the report at the South Asia Foreign Correspondent Club in New Delhi said Sri Lanka found itself at number 6 among the 7 SAARC countries primarily because of the fragile Cease-fire Agreement of 2002 which has resulted in the disappearance of ethnic Tamils whether journalists, political activists or innocent persons. |

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) media spokesman Thaya Master said that the 25 sailors including the Captain of the Jordanian ship, rescued on the LTTE territorial waters off Mullaithivu Saturday, were handed over to ICRC Monday around 10:00 a.m. in Kilinochchi.

The exact location of this bunker is not published due to security considerations but more than a handful of outsiders are now in the know of the bunker which is akin to a luxury apartment fully secured to withstand any attack. It is a self-contained safe haven with facilities to cook, sleep and live comfortably. |

Tamil Sea Tigers ( Freedom Fighters ) officials have informed International Maritime Organisation in UK that the 25-member crew of the cargo ship that drifted into LTTE waters off Mullaithivu coast due to technical failure, were safe in Kilinochchi. LTTE's U.N. Liaison officer Pavarasan is in touch with the ICRC to facilitate safe passage to the crew members as the cargo ship was grounded, according to LTTE Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan. |

The international community should make further assistance to Sri Lanka dependent on the resumption of the peace process in the country, German Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said in an interview to be published Sunday. Navaratnam's last Interview to TamilNet 1972 Sri Lanka Constitution illegal - Navaratnam "The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher's recent reference to the responsibilities of the [Sri Lankan] Government was precisely the same as the substance of a speech I made in the Ceylon Parliament on 11th June 1968," noted the doyen of Tamil politics, V. Navaratnam, when he spoke to TamilNet on 02 November. "I am 97 years old and have lived through the makings of history - not global history with British troops marching into Belgium to start World War I, but more particularly the political, constitutional, judicial, cultural and social history of Ceylon, the country of my origin." Mr. Navaratnam passed away in Canada Friday. |

V. Navaratnam, the only surviving founder member of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), the Federal Party, and who turned 97 last October, has passed away in Montreal, Canada at 4:10 p.m. Friday. The doyen of Tamil politics who inked the Bandaranaiyake Chelvanayagam pact and negotiated with the Sri Lanka leaders for sharing state power within a federal framework for almost three decades, came to a conclusion that the Sinhala polity would never compromise or agree on any decision to share state power with Tamils, and left the Federal Party, calling upon the Tamil youth to fight for the establishment of a separate self-governing Tamil State, as early as in 1969. |

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Friday received five Tamil National Alliance leaders R. Sampanthan, Mavai Senathiraja, Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, Selvam Adaikalanthan and Suresh Premachandran at his office in New Delhi. TNA MPs told media that the meeting was very cordial and that they had brought focus to the humanitarian crisis in Vaharai and Jaffna where food is used as tool of war by Colombo. Dr. Manmohan Singh emphasized that he had conveyed to Colombo that there could be no military solution to resolve the Tamil national problem and that it should address the political aspirations of the Tamil people through a negotiated settlement. |

The unfortunate situation of child rights as propaganda tool LTTE leadership is making every effort to stop the practice of underage recruitment within the movement. It has taken two decisive steps to achieve this goal. It has passed a Child Protection Law that sets the minimum age of recruitment into the movement at 17 and the minimum age for taking part in direct military combat at 18. It has strengthened the Child Protection Authority with certain powers to investigate future allegations of underage recruitment and take immediate action to release them. |
