That this was coupled with a callous disregard for civilian casualties was shown up in a recording in July 1990 of a conversation between two pilots of Sri Lankan airforce: 'Just one more bomb left, what shall I do? asked one pilot from a bomber. 'Drop it anywhere, machan' was the immediate response from the pilot of the reconnaissance helicopter.." . Air Marshal Goonetileke, who heads Sri Lankan Air Force  graduated from the Air Command and Staff College, Air University, Alabama , USA in 1994 and had also attended the National Defence College in Pakistan in 2001.

Sri Lanka Air Force bombers Tuesday morning bombed more than 20 houses, killing at least 15 civilians, including 4 children, and seriously wounding 30 civilians, according to initial reports from the coastal hamlet of Padahuthurai in Iluppaikadavai, 24 km northwest of Mannar town.

Sri Lanka: Tamils establish their own National Registry of Persons (Eelam) or Single Indentity Card PDF Print E-mail
tamilid0.jpgTamils in North-East of Sri Lanka, through the Civil Administration wing of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has launched their own Tamileelam National Registry of Persons on Monday, January 01 2007, as part of establishing their own nation. The programme was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Tamil Eelam Department of Registration of Persons, S Jeyenthiran, by issuing the first national identity card to LTTE leader Velupillai Pirapaharan. The card will function similar to the Social Security Number (SSN) used in many western democracies, where the number uniquely identifies an individual, TamilNet said.

Sri Lanka: European Union under Germany may lift ban on Tamil Freedom fighters (LTTE / Tamil Tigers) PDF Print E-mail
A lifting of the ban on the LTTE by the European Union (EU) is now a possibility because Germany is going to be EU President (for six months) from January 1, says the Colombo-based The Sunday Times.
In a Frankfurt-datelined story, the paper said that at the very least, an EU under Germany would put economic pressure on the Sri Lankan government to abandon its military campaigns and return to the negotiating table for meaningful talks with the LTTE.

All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC), which has its headquarters in Colombo, has condemned the aerial attack carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Thursday on the historic Sithirivelautha Swami (Murugan) Temple located in Verugal in Eachchilampathu division, south of Trincomalee district.Two Kfir jets dropped about nine bombs on the ferry linking the two districts by Verugal River, sources said.

S M Paramanathan to lead New Executive Committee of Sri Selva Vinayakar Temple,Brisbane as President PDF Print E-mail

smparamanathan.jpgAt a recently held ( 28th Dec 2006 ) Annual General Meeting, Sri Selva Vinayakar Temple devotees has unanimously elected S M Paramanathan as the new President for 2007/2008. S M Paramanathan is a well known Tamil Social Activist in Brisbane, Australia and associated with the development of the Temple for decades.

He was instrumental in the purchase of the land for the Temple in 1990. Extracts from Sri Selva Vinayakar Temple History as follows,
".. The major task for the Management Committees during the period 1987 to 1990 was to raise sufficient funds to purchase a suitable block of land to build the temple. Finally in 1990, under the leadership of Mr.S.Paramanathan, the Management Committee succeeded in purchasing 4.5 acres of elevated, virgin bushland at South Maclean, 35 km South of Brisbane.. Similar to the locations of the Hindu temples in India, this virgin land in Brisbane is also situated in the midst of areas of natural scenic beauty, in proximity to the Logan River at South Maclean. .."
