Drunk Indian Tamil actor D. Prakash dies in Sydney Hotel
prakash.jpgAn Indian stage actor, found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Sydney hotel, had choked on his vomit after a heavy drinking session, a newspaper has said.D. Prakash, 30, who was part of an Indian production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, was barred from boarding a plane to India two days before he was found dead on March 25 after Sydney airport staff suspected he was “too intoxicated to fly”, the Herald Sun reported.

The new Australian government under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is said to be giving serious consideration to the banning of the LTTE and further curbing activities of the outfit on Australian soil, a Sri Lankan official said.Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha T.B. Kohona who met Australia’s  Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, in Perth last week said the two sides had discussed a request by Sri Lanka to ban the LTTE in Australia.

Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese radicals being led by a man from Australia - Kumar Gunaratnam in Melbourne
Ironically enough, the leader of the radicals in a Sri Lankan party which espouses the cause of the island’s Sinhalese community is a Tamil. According to the Daily Mirror, the recent attacks on the moderates in the Sinhalese-Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) were inspired by a senior Tamil leader of the party who had just arrived from Australia after a long exile.The paper did not name the leader, but quoted a dissident MP to say that it was this person who had swung the JVP’s alliance with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 1988, when both the JVP and the LTTE were fighting Indian intervention in the island’s ethnic conflict through the controversial India-Sri Lanka Accord of July 1987.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has asked for "embarrassing" travel restrictions on Nelson Mandela and South African leaders to be lifted. A bill has been introduced in the US Congress to remove from databases any reference to South Africa's governing party and its leaders as terrorists. The African National Congress (ANC) was designated as a terrorist organisation by South Africa's old apartheid regime.

Sri Lanka : Masked men enter Tamil parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran's house in Colombo
sureshp.jpgMasked men in black uniform entered the house of Tamil parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran, a prominent leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), in the early hours of Wednesday, forced the care-taker of the house into a room saying that they were from the CID, and dug several holes at in the backyard. After they left, Police came to the house, went directly to the backyard without talking to the caretaker and finally detained him till Wednesday noon at Wattala police.

Sri Lankan civil war drives “Our Lady of Madhu” into exile

Things are getting worse as the Sri Lankan civil war drags on.  Even “God” is not exempt from the affects of the three-decade-long war between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan armed forces. “Our Lady of Madhu” and her believers were forced to search for safety after heavy battle broke out early last week between the LTTE and the SLA (Sri Lankan Army). This, no doubt has shocked Catholics around the world. The church has informed the Vatican and is awaiting their resolution to the problem through diplomatic means.

Sri Lanka's ABC radio back on air – Reynor Silva’s brother sealed a deal with Mahinda Rajapaksa !
reynorsilva.jpgSri Lanka's ABC Radio network is hoping to get back on air shortly after authorities re-issued some of its licenses and frequencies, a top official said. The network ran five radio channels which were shut down by the government over a report it broadcast about Tamil Tiger activity in the south of the island. ABC managing director Reynor Silva said Hiru FM, Gold FM and Sooryan FM have been issued spectrum by the telecommunications regulator Monday.

Sri Lankan way savvy minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle killed in bomb blast
jeyaraj_fernandopulle-1.jpgSri Lanka's Minister of Highways & Road Development, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, was killed in a bomb blast at the public playground in Weliweraya, located in the Gampaha district of Western Province, around 8:00 a.m. Sunday. 12 persons were killed and more than 50 wounded in the attack that took place while the minister was waving a flag to start off a marathon race in connection with the Tamil and Sinhala New Year celebrations. Jeyaraj FernandopulleAn athletic coach attached to the sports ministry, Luxman de Alvis, former Sri Lankan cyclist champion Karunaratne, and a police officer were also killed in the blast, according to initial reports.
