It was an unprecedented protest which cut across ethnic, religious, political, and social boundaries. There were even international protests, interestingly by non-Sri Lankans. It followed the assassination in Colombo of the young Tamil politician, Nadarajah Raviraj (44), Member of Parliament for Jaffna in the Tamil North.

The recent reports published by Sri Lankan State intelligence funded news web blogs regarding Australia's stand on Tamil freedom struggle is an utter lie, sources close to diplomatic circle in Canberra said. They also noted the appearance of the news in "web news blogs" Asian Tribune, Colombo Page, Lanka Page, Lanka Everything, SPUR (Melbourne, Australia) etc which all alleaged to be form part of Sri Lankan intelligence circle and their paylist.

Over 700 Melbourne Tamils, intellectuals and community leaders gathered at Holy family Hall, Mt Waverley on Sunday(17/12/06) 5.30pm, to remember the life of the late Dr.Anton Balasingham, theoretician and chief negotiator of the LTTE, who passed away last Thursday. Mrs. Betty Wilby, mother of Mrs. Adele Balasingham, inaugurated the meeting by lighting the candle, and Nithy Kanagaratnam, well known songwriter and singer led the tributes with his newly composed song “Closer walk with thee …”

Sri Lanka’s military continued its assault against the LTTE-held Vaharai region over the weekend, killing scores of Tamil civilians with air and artillery strikes. The United Nations and international ceasefire monitors protested the targeting of civilians.

Ever since tens of thousands of Tamils who fled earlier Sri Lankan military offensives in Trincomalee arrived in Vaharai, in northern Batticaloa, the government has cut off supplies of food and medicine to the impoverished region, creating a humanitarian crisis.

The main behind this secret operation is Mr.K.T.Rajasingham, a failed tamil politician currently based in Thailand (House No: 8/6, Muban Amoronpan Nakorn, Sukapibal Road 2, Suan Siam, Bangok 10230, Thailand) and who is also alleged to be on the pay list of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka: Failure of governance and destruction of democracy

Sri Lanka claims to be a democracy and the Sri Lankan Constitution says that the country ‘shall be known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka’. The claim is ludicrous in light of events in the island. Ordinary people in Sri Lanka at the heart of events, experience the wrecking of democratic principles and democratic institutions every day. The Sri Lankan government continues to violate every democratic principle and shows little regard for democratic institutions. Some of these institutions have been forced to become subservient to the politicians. Fear lurks the land and the people are unable to exercise their legitimate rights and carry on their daily lives in freedom and dignity without interference. The following statement clearly expresses the seriousness of the situation in Sri Lanka:
