SRI LANKAN REGIME USES FOOD AS A WEAPON OF WAR AGAINST TAMILS
The Sri Lankan Government’s closure of the A9 Highway in August this year is part of an appalling attempt to use food as a weapon of war. It is indeed a war crime and calls for immediate  condemnation. The A9 is the only route through which food and other essential items can be transported to the North of the island. According to The Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR)   “The closure of A9 road, the only trunk road to Jaffna from rest of Sri Lanka, halted the flow of essential food provisions and medical supplies to Jaffna Peninsula…. the Sri Lankan government has imposed an undeclared embargo on humanitarian assistances”

Why Tamils Say Genocide
by J.T. Janani, Tamil Guardian, October 18, 2006
Tamils’ invocation of the word ‘genocide’ with regards their treatment by the Sri Lankan state is viewed by many external observers as exaggeration. After all, they argue, even by the worst Tamil assertion, ‘only’ 90,000 of us have been killed in the conflict - and that too over several decades.

Embargo on Sri Lanka to save innocent tamils - S.Sabesan-Australia
While loudly declaring its commitment to peace talks, in reality the Sri-Lankan Government is hell bent on its undeclared war against Tamils. To aggravate matters there is an economic embargo against the Tamils coupled with stringent travel restrictions. The state government enforced economic embargo together with restrictions on health care facilities and provision of essential food items are causing immense hard ship to Tamils.

IFJ condemns bombing of Tamil radio station in Sri Lanka
radio1.jpgThe International Federation of Journalists has condemned the bombing of the official radio station of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the Voice of Tigers (VoT), by the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) in Vanni last Tuesday. The IFJ, reminding the Sri Lankan government of its "absolute obligation" under the Geneva Convention to respect the safety of journalists, said it hoped the attack does not set a "terrible precedent" for further "targeted attacks" on media outlets. The SLAF attack on Thamileelam Vanoli tower in Kokkavil, destroyed the main transmitter and tower of the station that broadcasts three services, the VoT, a Sinhala service and a Tamil commercial service from Vanni.

US should support "confederal Sri Lanka"- Boston Globe

The Boston Globe, in an editorial appeared in the 22 October edition, said that Washington should prevail on Colombo to "withdraw its armed forces from the Tamil areas in the north of the island," and urge Colombo to open A9, to demonstrate Washington's seriousness towards advocating a "permanent peace that provides for Tamil self-government and human rights in a confederal Sri Lanka."
