 Australian Parliamentarians Don Randal and Senator Steve Hutchins are due to to visit Sri Lanka on a fact finding mission, funded by Australia - Sri Lanka Friendship Group, sources said. Unconfirmed reports says that, these two parliamentarians request to visit war torn towns in North East of Sri Lanka, including Trincomalee ( where 17 French air workers have been massacred by Sri Lankan Army ) , Vaharai ( where several thousand tamils are displaced ) and Jaffna has been turn down by High Commissioner K.Balapatabandi, as it will expose the current reality in Sri Lanka. |

President of the Jaffna Multi Pupose Co-Operative Society (MPCS) and an active social worker in the Jaffna Peninsula, S. T. Gananathan, 64, was shot dead near Mampalam junction Sri Lanka Army camp in Ariyalai, a suburb of Jaffna, around 6:30 a.m., Thursday. Gananathan was one of the activists who worked for exposing Krishanthy's case. |

A set of Canadian Memorial Stamps and First Day Cover were issued at a memorial function in Toronto Saturday, honoring the contribution by late V. Navaratnam, a doyen of Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), the Federal Party, and who called upon the Tamil youth to fight for the establishment of a separate self-governing Tamils State in 1969. Mr Navaratnam urged the youth to fight, when he left the Federal Party and founded Thamil Suyadchi Kalaham, the Organisation for Tamil Self-Governance, after witnessing failed negotiations for power-sharing with Sri Lankan leaders for almost three decades. |

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and Free Media Movement (FMM) together with other journalists organisations Monday launched an International and national campaign to release journalist Parameshawary who has been detained in Sri Lanka prison for seventy days without trial, civil sources in Colombo said. She was arrested under the draconian Prevention of Terrorism (PTA) act. The authorities have filed no charges and have failed to establish any links with terrorist activity, the letter of appeal says. |

One year has passed since the abductions of the TRO humanitarian aid workers on the 29 & 30 January 2006. To date the Sri Lanka Police have yet to conduct any meaningful investigation or inquiry into these disappearances. The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka investigated this case and made a report to its head that has never been released. The atmosphere of impunity has lead to a steady decline in the status of human rights on the island. |

Situation report in Jaffna Reported by Fr Paramavalan Peter CMF from Jaffna Sri Lanka, B.A. (India), B.Th. (Rome), M.A. (Philippines) S.T.L.(Frankfurt), S.T.D (Philippines). The military machinery and the Sinhalese collectivism of the Buddhist State has abridged the dignity of the people of Jaffna to the subhuman condition. Imposing economic embargo and closing the A9 highway it has blocked the supply of food, medicine, fuel and other essential commodities for the normal life of the people. Even the pregnant mothers, newborn babies, bedridden sick are being deprived of their food. The Sri Lankan Government has made the Jaffna Peninsula as an open prison and deliberately and systematically torturing them and making their lives bitter day by day. |
