The Jaffna Judge, Srinithi Nandasekaran, was given the orders by the Sri Lankan Justice Commission not to perform any duties outside the courts. In other words she was ordered not to go to the spot to investigate murders. Why?

TYO Australia will be running a Tamil School - A Cultural Experience(ACE) for both beginners and advanced speakers of Tamil. An emphasis will be placed on conversational Tamil, but written Tamil will also be taught. The classes are targeted at University/TAFE students, but TYO will not deny anybody the right to learn their 'mother tongue'.

Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys Association (JHC OBA) Sydney and Hartley College had their annual cricket match on Sunday 24th September at the Ollie Webb Park in Parramatta from 10:30am to 4:00pm. JHC OBA Sydney won the toss and elected to bat first. JHC OBA scored 238 runs in 30 overs. The main scorers were Gowrishankar (47 runs) who was steady and consistent with his batting, Ranjithan (78 runs) who made sure that the fielders were always running and also won the best Batsman award.

Three dancer-sisters lit up the Chennai stage nearly half a century ago. The most popular among the three Travancore sisters, Padmini, exited the stage on Sunday night, snatched by a massive heart attack. As she bowed out, it is curtains for an era of cinema — an era that had crowned her queen. Born in Poojapura, Kerala, on June 12, 1932, to Thankappan Pillai and Saraswathi Amma, Padmini came after Lalitha and before Ragini (both of whom died earlier). It was dance that brought the sisters into the limelight and a combination of fine skills of acting and dancing that kept Padmini there for nearly four decades. |
