அவுஸ்திரேலியாவின் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க கேந்திரங்களில் ஒன்று ஹாபர் பிரிட்ஜ் எனப்படும் சிட்னி மேம்பாலம். அவுஸ்திரேலியா வர விரும்பாதவர்கள் இந்தியன் படத்தில் வரும் "ரெலிபோன் மணி போல்" பாடலை மீண்டும் பார்க்கவும்.அதில் வரும் மேம்பாலம் தான் இது. உலகின் மிகப்பெரிய (உலகின் மிக நீளமானது அல்ல)மேம்பாலமாகக் கருதப்படும் இது நீர் மட்டத்திலிருந்து 134 மீற்றர் மேலே உள்ளது.1932 ஆம ஆண்டு கட்டப்பட்ட இந்த ஹாபர் பிரிட்ச் இந்த ஆண்டுடன் தனது 75 ஆவது ஆண்டு நிறைவைக் கொண்டாடுகின்றது. இந்த மேம்பாலம் உள்ளூர் வாசிகளால் Coathanger கோர்ட்டுக் கொழுவி (இது வேற கொழுவி) என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்றது.

Australia : Deported Tamil Asylum seeker Mr. Rajendram Illanchshelvan Massacred in Sri Lanka capital

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarians urged the Australian and Indonesian governments, in press release released on Wednesday, not to send back the 85 Tamils intercepted by the Australian Navy in Australian Sea on 22 February citing that if they were sent back their lives will be in danger from the Sri Lankan armed forces and collaborating paramilitary groups.

Jaffna Diocese Area Minister Rev Dr.S.Jeyanesan sent an Urgent appeal highlighting the deteriorating human rights situation in North East of Sri lanka to Dr.Greg French, Australian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka, sources said.He urged Dr. Greg French to use his good office and his countries in the name of the lord to intervene and save the innocent civilians from death and destruction.
Copy of the Letter sent to Dr.Greg French's Office in Colombo follows;

"..The government's respect for the human rights of its citizens declined due in part to the breakdown of the CFA. Credible sources reported human rights problems, including unlawful killings by government agents, high profile killings by unknown perpetrators, politically motivated killings by paramilitary forces associated with the government and the LTTE, and disappearances. Human rights monitors also reported arbitrary arrests and detention, poor prison conditions, denial of fair public trial, government corruption and lack of transparency, infringement of religious freedom, infringement of freedom of movement, and discrimination against minorities. There were numerous reports that armed paramilitary groups linked to government security forces participated in armed attacks, some against civilians..."

Sri Lankan policemen and soldiers, as well as underworld figures, have been arrested in connection with a rash of killings and abductions in the latest chapter of the two-decade civil war, police said on Tuesday.The admission comes as the government faces mounting pressure from human rights groups and foreign governments to halt rights abuses blamed on elements of the military as well as Tamil Tiger rebels and renegades, and after the discovery of five corpses in the island's north.

An Appeal to Secretary General of UN, Bring Relief and Solace to Our Children - Rev. Fr.G.A.Francis

Educational officials, students and staff of schools staged a protest against the deteriorating conditions in educational establishments in the Northeast of Sri Lanka. Vilaththikulam School Principal was killed in Mannar on 27th February. A teacher and her two children injured in the attack of Deep Penetration Unit operated by Sri Lankan Army in Mannar on 28 th February. Norwegian ambassador Hans Brattskar met with the Officials of the Zonal Education Department in Kilinochchi around 5.00pm on 5th February. At the end of the meeting a memorandum was handed over to the Secretary General of UN through the Norwegian Ambassador, by President, CAET, Rev. Fr. G. A. Francis Joseph.
