Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir bombers target tamil schools - teacher, children wounded

kifir00.jpgSri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir bombers Monday morning bombed a tamil school in Chundikulam, wounding Four students and a female teacher. Chundikulam, located 21 km northeast of Kilinochchi, is a village the in southern part of Vadamaradchi East region in Jaffna district.The victims were identified by medical sources in Kilinochchi as Kanapathippillai Nirojan aged 11, attending 7th grade at Chundikulam Vidyalayam, Luxmikanthan Jegatheepan aged 16, attending 9th grade. The teacher was identified as Kesavan Sathiyawathy aged 26. Other two students are yet to be identified.

A Sri Lankan asylum seeker detained on Christmas Island claims to be a victim of state-sanctioned torture and denies he has come to Australia for economic reasons.Sanje Selvanainar is among 82 Sri Lankans who will be sent to Nauru to have their claims assessed after Indonesia refused to accept the men for processing.Mr Selvanainar claims he was "detained and tortured" by the Sri Lankan army in January last year."We (were) in the army camp over the 45 days, our five friends (were) shot in front of me," he told ABC Radio.

sooriyaa.jpgSri Lankan Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Sripathy Sooriyarachi Saturday around 3:00 p.m. in Colombo following his summon for investigation into alleged misuse of a government vehicle after his removal from the ministerial portfolio. The arrest comes after Mr. Sooriyarachi has exposed an alleged scandal by Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse, the brother of SL President, involving Rs.600 million in the purchase of Russian-made MIG fighter and weapons.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Australian Government has decided to transfer to Nauru the illegal arrivals which were picked up by the HMAS Success in the Indian Ocean.  The Government is committed to a strong border protection policy, and we are also committed to sending the strongest possible message of deterrence to people who would engage in the dangerous and unlawful activity of people smuggling.  These people will be transferred to Nauru and any claims that they have will be processed in the normal course there.

ONE of 83 Sri Lankan asylum seekers intercepted by the navy near Christmas Island has appealed to the Immigration Minister to grant him protection in Australia.The 31-year-old Tamil says he faces serious human rights abuses if sent back.The man, who had shrapnel embedded in his brain from a bomb and has mental health problems, is the only Sri Lankan able to get legal help in Australia after he was flown to Perth last week for urgent medical treatment.
